Testing Vg Without Dialling In.

Recommended Posts

Hi,

I am currently investigating the demo version of voiceguide and would really appreciate some guidance.

I have read on this forum that there is a way to use a phone emulator such as Dialogic promptmaster to emulate a phone dialling in also I have read that there is a possibility to use a PBX.

I only have one analogue line with RJ11 cable going into my Dialogic D/41EPCI which works fine under XP and VG. However as I am testing an IVR application with DTMF it is costing me a fortune to dial in from from my cellphone.

Can anyone advise if failing to find a promptmaster will a PABX work and how can the physical connection from the PABX to my dialogic card be made as well as a telphone set?

I have found this PABX on Ebay: http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/Panasonic-A616-telep...1QQcmdZViewItem

Does anyone know if it will work with my current setup for testing?

Many thanks

Getting a cheap PABX is the best option.

Just confirm before buying any PABX that it does support analog extensions, and then attach these to the Dialogic card.

baltazar: Yes, a PABX(PBX) is probably the best solution. Promptmasters are rare and expensive (often much more so than a cheap pabx). The panasonic model you refer to is a high-spec multi-line unit and will probably sell for much more than its current ebay bid. Since you have only 1 line and a need for testing, its overkill. I suggest a simple 1 (or maybe2) line model. Take a look at: http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?Vie...em=330140030166 - its cheap, single line, plug-in wiring (may not need line-jacks/tools) and would probably do the job (NOTE: this is NOT a recomendation - buy at your own risk). Also: note that many cheap pabx do not support caller-id at the extention, this says it does, but may not be UK std (You need to check this if important). Also note: pabx helpful for doing flash-transfers, ie: use dialogic to answer phone and transfer call over to an extention if needed.

...Oh, and just a footnote: looks like you can't just plug-in, you will need RJ11>BT Jack connectors/convertors (readily available). And... when you do get it plugged in, say dialogic on ex1 and handset on ex2, you would just dial ex1 from ex2 to make your test calls.

I really appreciate all your help.

I have gone for the ebay item http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?Vie...ADME:L:RTQ:UK:1

At this price it does not matter if it does not have all the features I want. What I need most is being able to call internally into my dialogic card without resorting to my cellphone. I will post a reply once I have done some testing in case someone else might be needing a PBX for testing with VG like me.

If you are using an analog line, try the skutch line simulator. This will connect directly to the dialogic board and will apply ring current to emulate an incoming call. Just connect a standard phone to the skutch, the skutch to your dialogic board, your testing at will without relying on external phone service.

Check it out at http://www.skutchelectronics.com/sims.htm

Hope this answers your question.

Regards,
