Zoom 3025n Not Working

Recommended Posts

I'm trying to evaluate VoiceGuide before purchasing it - from what I've read it seems like just what I need. However, I want to actually write & test some scripts without spending $600+ on a Dialogic card (which I WILL do once I'm convinced things work as I need them to). To do so, I bought a Zoom 3025N PCI modem (which, according to an email from Zoom, is identical in functionality with the 3025C - only with an Agere chipset instead of a Conexant one). Unfortunately, I can't seem to get it to work. After configuring VoiceGuide to use this modem, when it starts up I get the dreaded "LINEERR_INVALMEDIAMODE" message in the 'State' column of the VoiceGuide monitor window.

Since others have gotten the 3025C to work, I'm wondering if anyone can help me figure out where I'm going wrong. What follows is a lengthy description of everything I could think to look for:

  1. I'm running Windows XP, SP2.
  2. I've installed the latest modem drivers from Zoom.
  3. In Control Panel, Phone & Modem Options (Advanced tab), the following items are listed:
    • Microsoft H.323 Telephony Service Provider
    • Microsoft HID Phone TSP
    • Microsoft Multicast Conference TAPI Service Provider
    • NDIS Proxy TAPI Service Provider
    • TAPI Kernel-Mode Service Provider
    • Unimodem 5 Service Provider
  4. In Device Manager the modem shows up as 'Zoom V.92 PCI Voice faxmodem'.
  5. The following information is gleaned from the Properties of the modem in Device Manager:
    • A query of the modem returns 'COMMAND NOT SUPPORTED' for the AT#CLS=? command.
    • Driver info: Zoom 9/13/2001 version 8.12.0.0
    • Driver files: modem.sys (Microsoft version 5.1.2600.2180) & ltmdmnt.sys (LT version 8.12-G Z207)
    • On the Diagnostics tab the following appears: Modem inf path: ltmdmnt.inf; Modem inf section: Modem_PNP_DSVD
  6. Also in Device Manager, under 'Sound, video, and game controllers', 'Unimodem Half-Duplex Audio Device' is listed. Looking at the Properties, General tab for this it says the location of this is on the Zoom V.92 PCI Voice faxmodem. On the Properties tab, 'Modem Wave Driver' is listed under 'Audio Devices', and if I check the Properties on it the Status is 'Driver is enabled and functioning properly'.
Am I missing anything?? Any suggestions to get this to work? Thanks a million!!

The LINEERR_INVALMEDIAMODE indicates that the drivers installed for this modem could not open the line in Voice mode. Your only option is to contact the manufacturer to see if they have any updated drivers, or try another modem.

Just getting a Dialogic card will probably save you a lot of time. Reading through other articles on this forum would let you confirm this.

What type of system are you trying to set up and what do you want to confirm is working before going ahead with the Dialogic purchase?

I'm doing up-front research for starting up a new business which will involve a significant financial investment on my part should I move forward. As part of the research, I want to define and test run the scripts I will be using on VoiceGuide - certainly nothing out of the ordinary, but nevertheless I want to see them working before I invest in the proposed business. I figured this would be a reasonable approach, considering you offer free demo software. I realize that a voice modem isn't the ideal solution, but since the software doesn't have a "Simulator" mode like other products, I have to go this route to keep from spending $600 on a Dialogic card before I need it. I further thought I could do this after reading several posts saying that the Zoom 3025 works.

The folks at Zoom say they're unfamiliar with VoiceGuide and suggested that I contact you guys for assistance. They also insist the 3025N is identical in function to the 3025C, so it appears that I have incorrect drivers. As I said in my first post, I've upgraded them to the most current version available from the Zoom site.

Can you give me any more information about what VoiceGuide is doing that results in the LINEERR_INVALMEDIAMODE message? Maybe if I communicate that to Zoom they can figure out what the problem is.

Thanks again!

The LINEERR_INVALMEDIAMODE is the error returned when VoiceGuide tries to open the telephony line device in "Voice" mode. And the LINEERR_INVALMEDIAMODE error returned by the driver indicates that the driver does not know anything about a "Voice" mode...

I give up...it looks like the Zoom 3025N won't work with VoiceGuide...why, I don't know - other than the fact that the Agere chip won't support the voice commands used. The Zoom Tech Support guy was no help at all.

I'm going to try an AOpen FM56-PX PCI, which was reported here to work OK.
