I think I missinterpeted my your last answer because my question was vague and not to the point.

I have a computer runnung xp with a vary high quality modem attached.
The shareware version of Voice Gude works well with it.

Now I want to register my copy of voiceguide.
I get a unique identifier somthing like H702 do I use this to register voice guide?

Do you have any Network (Ethernet) cards in this machine?

Can you run this command in a DOS Command window and post it's output:

ipconfig /all

I have been running an old registered version of voice guide for 3 years on the machine, with little trouble. I am now upgrading to xp. and new version of VG. I want as stable system as possible, so there are no extra programs(just the bare minimum, no cards(network or otherwise except the modem). The system is vary stable this way. I am only upgrading to improve that stability, so adding cards, programs, or extra drivers is vary undesirable. Plus it would add to cost of system which is already to expensive for me.
