Testing Vg Scripts Without Tying Up A Phone Line

Recommended Posts

As discussed in a few posts already (eg: http://voiceguide.com/forums/index.php?showtopic=1063) it is preferable to test IVR systems by dialing into them rather then using a 'call simulator'.

In an office environment the development and testing is usually done using one PBX extension is plugged into the Dialogic card (or modem) with calls are made from another extension.

In situations where a PBX is not available normal phone lines are usually used, but this 'hardware phone line simulator' device as described below could be viable alternative:

I purchased a Skutch AS-4A (http://www.skutchelectronics.com/index.html) on E-bay for $25 (US). It lists for $75 but there and there are a few companies that will sell them for less than $50.00 and this guy on eBay seems to have a few for $25.00

Bottom line is that it works. The AS-4A is their bottom of the line model

and you have to press a button to simulate the ring tone but it works fine

and means you can test the system without having it plugged into a phone

line. If anyone is going to try this they should know that you have to

press the button in a way to simulate the length of ring and times to get

the system to activate. i.e. if you have it set to activate on 2 rings you

press the button twice.
