VoiceGuide plays 'static' instead of sound file

Recommended Posts

We have built our IVR and are having trouble with hearing the prompts when dialling in.

When we dial in using the voice files provided with the software, the first 1 second (or so) of the prompt plays clearly, and then static occurs and no further action can be done.

When we dial in using our voice files, the system says that there has been an error before the static cuts in. The first second of our voice files do not playback at all.

Our voice files were recorded professionally at 44000 Hz, 16 bit and playback fine from Media player.

We have tried multiple modems, external and internal. Is the problem the modem, or the voice files or something else?

Would appreciate your help asap

Some modems do have problems playing back sound files.

The problem could also be the on-the-fly conversion that Windows must do to play your current files. From VG Help file:

Windows Voice Modem Wave driver can only support sound files in the following format PCM 8000Hz, 16bit, Mono. When using Voice modems all sound files must be recorded in the above format.

Dialogic Wave driver prefers sound files in the following format PCM 11025Hz, 8bit, Mono. When using a Dialogic card, all sound files should be recorded in the above format.

In general, if you've gone to the trouble of recording the sound files professionally then I'd suggest you use Dialogic card instead - no voice modems out there will play your sound files as clearly as Dialogic.

What is there to do if it is the PC that have issue converting the wave files on the fly. (i.e if it is not the modem that is playing up)?

Appreciate yor reply

Could you please respond to the issue that was raised earlier re: the static cutting in after 1 second. When using the supplied sound files, when dialling in using an internal modem, we heard the first 1 second of the voice files clearly, then static. It appears that in this case, the modem worked correctly, however something else seemed to be affecting it.

Thanks

We have seen some modems starting to play static but these were usually random events, and we have never as yet encountered a case whew they would 'reliably' start playing static after a second or so.

The only solution is to try another modem - or to be guaranteed proper operation just purchase a Dialogic card.
