zzz Report post Posted 06/23/2004 08:17 AM My emails have been working fine in VG for months but recently they have stopped working. In the module, I usually have the smtp server as mail-hub.bigpond.net.au and port 25. However, as you may know more and more ISPs are starting to "close" port 25. My ISP did this recently. I'm wondering if this could be causing the problem, in the sense that VG may not be able to connect to the smtp server directly. Closing port 25 is apparently a measure to stop spammers. Yet, I'm pretty sure that "closing port 25" really just means that are blocking port 25 when it detects spam-like traffic levels, that's all. Or does it detect that you are sending emails automatically from an application, somehow? I have contacted my ISP technical support but they can offer no ideas to rectify the problem. My outlook emails are sent fine and arrive fine. My settings in outlook are exactly the same as in VG... mail-hug.bigpond.net.au and port 25. I haven't entered any authentication user / password in outlook either. VG tracelog says that the emails are sent okay. But they never turn up at their destination. I have tried entering my username and password into the module for authentication, even tried making the port number 0 or blank, as well attempting to use another port number like 26. Tried all possiblities I think. No emails get to their target. I've read some chat in various web forums about the fact that by paying the ISP, in this case Telstra, another $10 a month for a static IP address, any port 25 problems are resolved. Before taking that measure, I just wanted to check with you. Thanks, Zac Share this post Link to post
SupportTeam Report post Posted 06/23/2004 09:30 AM My emails have been working fine in VG for months but recently they have stopped working. ..... VG tracelog says that the emails are sent okay. Please post the MMDDes.txt trace log (MMDD stands for month and day) there will be more info in those logs as to what was the response from the SMTP server - this will show up any problems during sending. I've read some chat in various web forums about the fact that by paying the ISP, in this case Telstra, another $10 a month for a static IP address, any port 25 problems are resolved. Not to sure how this would resolve anything, but it's a possibility - best to speak with your ISP about this. Share this post Link to post
zzz Report post Posted 06/23/2004 09:41 AM No need to respond. Just found the solution. My ISP have evidently changed their settings recently, they are requiring the "return email" or "reply email address" to be set (in this case in the VG module). Previously I never put a reply address in the module because I didn't want any emails going to the computer on which VG is running. Putting it in, is no real prob. Share this post Link to post
SupportTeam Report post Posted 06/23/2004 08:53 PM Looked up one of your previous posts and noticed that you say: My script contains probably around 1000 modules, broken into a series of subscripts. just curious, what sort of application have you developed? Share this post Link to post
