Strange Behavior - Crashing And Cutting Off Caller

Hello,

 

We have been using voiceguide for a few months now and have had two recurring problems I have been unable to conquer. We are using voiceguide 5.2.1006 on a windows 2000 machine with a Dialogic 4 ISA card. The first is callers being cut off ONLY while recording a message in voicemail. When callers are cut off, it is not during a period of silence, it is mid sentence, either a few seconds into the message, or sometimes after a few sentences. There is no discernable pattern I have noticed, though it happens about 4 times a week. This does not happen only on cell phone calls, or weak signals; it happens on calls of every signal strength, to speakers who speak quickly normally, and slowly. The program does NOT crash when this happens. I have attached a log file which seems to indicate a disconnect, but the caller did not actually disconnect. The second problem is random crashing. Again, there is no pattern that I have observed which causes this to happen, rather it just happens intermittently (once every few days). The machine runs nothing besides an installation of win2k, the dialogic drivers, voiceguide, norton antivirus, and foobar2000 for call hold music (these problems occurred before foobar was installed.) In response, I am considering two measures - first upgrading to windows xp, as other customers seem to have had better success with your program in XP, and second just replacing the old computer. Do you think this is more likely a hardware or a software problem, and what course of action do you suggest?

That would be due to Dialogic card mistakenly detecting a disconnect tone during the person speaking. This fix this you'll need to specify the frequencies & cadence of the busy tone more tightly and increase the number or 'cadences' or times that the disconnect on/off tone pattern must be heard by the Dialogic card before it decides that it hears the disconnect tone.

I have attached a log file which seems to indicate a disconnect, but the caller did not actually disconnect.

The trace seems to show a successful announced transfer.

What is the error message displayed when the problem occurs?

Hello again, and thank you for your reply.

 

First, I seem to have pasted the wrong log into my last message, my apologies.

I reformatted, and installed winXP Pro on the same hardware. The random crashing hasn't happened yet (though this is only the second day of operation) os I'm hoping that problem is resolved. However, callers are getting cut off while leaving a message, just as before. I've attached two abbreviated voicemails and the log which matches the last of the two (logging was not enabled when the first was left). I tried using cooledit to identify a symptom, but it seems both callers were cut off while speaking. I've also included my dialogic/4 settings, both the PBXpert config settings and the TAPI .txt export. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

The hangup is around 100147.03. It says silence is the reason for hangup, but from the wavfile that was clearly not the case.

My dialogic PBXpert settings are attached to this post. Not - there is no formal disconnect tone sent by the PBX, a Toshiba DK-16. Only the busy signal or a loop current drop indicates hangup.

If the end of recording is made due to a false detection of Silence then you should change the VG.INI file's silence detection settings.

 

Please see the SilenceDetectLength and SilenceDetectLevel settings in VG.INI file.

I have adjusted the silence sensitivity from the previous value, 10, down to 3. I will post again if this does not fix the problem. Thank you for your suggestion.

I readjusted the silence detect level to 1, to maximum sensitivity, to make sure there were no false hangups. In testing, however, I was able to create a false hangup consistently when speakin softly, but not unrealistically so, into either a cellphone, or landline. The logs continue to indicate "silence", as before, as the reason for ending the call. The silence length is still set to three seconds. I've attached a few sample voicemails, one of which has a fairly loud sound less than three seconds before it hangs up. This does not seem to be simply a sensitivity problem. What do you think?

If I am not able to resolve this false silence reporting, I'd like to disable silence monitoring only in the voicemail recording module (I'd still like to monitor while callers are elsewhere in the script), so I don't want to simply change SilenceDetectLevel to 0. If you have no other solution, can you send me a modified VM script which does not listen for silence?

If you are using the Enterprise version of VoiceGuide then you can modify the voicemail scripts directly (see in VG's \system\vm\ subdirectory), turning off silence detection by setting the SilenceDetectLvl result variable to 0 - see: http://www.voiceguide.com/vghelp/html/modRecord.htm

 

Further looking at the trace we can see that it is the Dialogic card's silence detection that is at fault here - not VoiceGuide's own silence detection though.

 

You can disable VoiceGuide's reaction to Dialogic's silence detection by setting the following in the [PlayRecordConfig] section of VG.INI file:

 

SilenceDetectDialogic=off

 

and then restarting VoiceGuide.

 

Dialogic's silence detection settings are usually configurable using the .PRM file - please refer to Dialogic documentation for more info on this.
