Software / Hw Advice

Recommended Posts

Hi,

I am a software developer and want to add appt reminders via phone to my application. This is a Windows application built with a Microsoft development tool, so we can use APIs, DLLs, or COM. The application is distributed to several clients, so each would need to buy the hardware and a license of the telephony software.

The system would automatically dial each person on the list and remind them about the appt - something like "This is a reminder for X. You have an appointment with Y tomorrow at 10 AM." It would be nice if the system also records whether the message was delivered to a person, left on voice mail, or didn't get through (busy line for example).

The load on the system would be light, and I estmate that a single phone line is all that's needed. The dialing will be made from a college, so I suspect that means a PBX phone system.

Can you recommend for me some good hardware and software for this task. Thanks very much.

Mike

VoiceGuide can do what you describe, and is used in a number of similar applications already.

Please see our WWW from where you can download the fully working evaluation version of the software. The demonstrations supplied will get you running in a matter of minutes.

Sounds like a 4 port analog card should be enough for most of your sites - so I'd recommend looking at the D/4PCI or the D/41JCT cards.

The software license type you'll need is the 'Enterprise+Dialer'.

Where are you located?

Hi,

We are located in Orlando, FL.

Sounds like VG would work. I have a few questions please:

1. Would that Enterprise version include the COM object for VG?

2. Does this license include free distribution of the VG COM object with my application or would I need a separate license for each distribution?

3. Would the COM object communicate the call status (delivered to a person, left on voice mail, couldn't get through ...) to my app or otherwise log it so is is accessible by my app?

4. What's the difference between the D/4PCI and the D/41JCT cards?

5. Would an analog card work with a phone system such as ones used in US colleges?

Thanks.

1. Would that Enterprise version include the COM object for VG?

Yes. see: http://www.voiceguide.com/vgFeatures.htm

2. Does this license include free distribution of the VG COM object with my application or would I need a separate license for each distribution?

Separate license for each installation.

3. Would the COM object communicate the call status (delivered to a person, left on voice mail, couldn't get through ...) to my app or otherwise log it so is is accessible by my app?

It would be logged. In: http://www.voiceguide.com/vghelp/html/DialListInto.htm

see the "Results Files" section and this XML entry: <OnNotConnected>

4. What's the difference between the D/4PCI and the D/41JCT cards?

JCT type cards can do 'dial and conference' see: http://www.voiceguide.com/vghelp/html/modXfer.htm

5. Would an analog card work with a phone system such as ones used in US colleges?

Yes. It works with the normal analog lines.

I checked the Intel site for the Dialogic D/4PCI Voice Board. This is what they say at the top of the page

The product described in this document is currently scheduled for retirement. This product is not recommended for new designs, and may no longer be available for existing designs. Consider migrating to the Intel® Dialogic® D/4PCIUF combined media board.

Any advantages / disadvantages of D/4PCIUF over the D/4PCI ?

D/4PCIU is the same as D/4PCI plus it can be used in 3.3V PCI buses as well.

3.3V PCI buses are used in many top-end servers. All other machines use normal 5V PCI buses.

D/4PCIUF also has some faxing capabilities.
