What Dialogic Card To Choose

Very new to this situation and I am not sure what the defference between a 4 port card and an 8 port card can do for me. Can someone please explain this to me?

A 4 port card can handle 4 calls at the same time, and an 8 port card can handle 8 calls at the same time...
