Testing Scripts W/o Modem

Recommended Posts

I'm trying to test different IVR software programs before my Dialogic card arrives and I can get to work in earnest. Unfortunately, I don't have a proper voice modem either, so I can't simply plug this computer into a phone line and go.

I know that the help file says that the 'best way' to test scripts is to dial in just like a user would, but is there another way? I just want to test keypress responses (to make sure I've got it correct and to start setting up the basic framework). At least one IVR program I've seen has a built-in simulator for such things, but is there a way to do this sort of thing with VoiceGuide?

Thanks

Not at this stage.

Soon you will be able to test by dialing into system using a VoIP softphone software. This will allow testing of entire system without any hardware.

Ah, too bad. I was hoping to have something working to play with when my hardware arrives. Oh well. :-)

Even if you don't have a simulator right now, you've still got WAY better support for non-paying (yet!) customers than other people. Faster than support for completely paid-for software, too. I really appreciate that from a company.

I'm not too fond of the scripting language that has to be used, but I guess I can learn. :-)

We get many comments that the script designer that comes with VoiceGuide is one of the easiest to learn and use, but we always like to get feedback from users as to what they found not as straightforward as they would have liked, or how the script designer could be improved.

If you have any comments please let us know.

As for VG, the graphical part of the scripting processs is very nice. It's the text stuff I'm not familiar with. I've messed around with VBScript before, but I'm not 100% familiar with even the basic stuff.

The program I was initially going to purchase allowed for creating 'plugins', which seems to behave like your 'Run Program' scripting module. Their instructions allow for PHP (which I am familiar with), as well as a few other languages. But the program has confusing parts and their forum and phone support seems to be non-existant, even for paid customers.

I'm not complaining about VG, per say, just commenting. All things considered, it does seem to be the easiest program I've found to use. :-)

I'm trying to make an IVR that gives information, books appointments and has voicemail. Possibly looking at taking credit cards, somewhere along the line, as well. The information is easy, the voicemail is easy; it's the appointment booking (and credit cards) part that's going to be a bit troublesome.

You may be able to create the system without delving into VBScript. Appointment booking can usually just require querying your appointments database and setting/adding/retrieving records in it.

If you need live credit card processing we offer those integration modules as well. See: http://www.voiceguide.com/suppSampleScripts.htm
