kviar Report post Posted 10/26/2006 12:43 AM Hi I've a modem that is connected to a DTMF (Brazil's caller id system) phone line I know that the modem correctly grabs caller id data, as I've tried it with hyperterminal, typed a simple "AT#CID=1", called it, and got the number right several times. However, when using voiceguide (version 5.2.50.49 2 line installed on a 2003 system), I get a big nothing instead of the called id data! I believe the problem might be in the command line that might be specifying the FSK system instead of the DTMF system (the standard as set in the system voiceguide is installed). I'm sending 3 log files attached: I hope they help. Thanks log.zip Share this post Link to post
SupportTeam Report post Posted 10/26/2006 01:40 AM Looks like the modem's TAPI drivers are not setting the modem's CallerID detection options correctly. The only option is to ask the manufacturer to provide you with working drivers or edit the modems configuration .ini file directly to force the driver to send appropriate commands to modem. Again you will need to speak with the modem manufacturer to determine what the appropriate commands for this modem are. It's usually easier to just get a Dialogic card. If cost is an issue then you may want to look at getting a used Dialogic card on Ebay. Share this post Link to post
kviar Report post Posted 10/26/2006 11:41 AM Looks like the modem's TAPI drivers are not setting the modem's CallerID detection options correctly. My point: where do we configure voiceguide to send to the TAPI drivers the proper commands? Some ini file? The only option is to ask the manufacturer to provide you with working drivers or edit the modems configuration .ini file directly to force the driver to send appropriate commands to modem. Again you will need to speak with the modem manufacturer to determine what the appropriate commands for this modem are. The drivers are Ok, otherwise i would not be able to see the called id working properly anywhere, as I said I did. Also, the proper command I already found out: it's that one I pointed out It's usually easier to just get a Dialogic card. If cost is an issue then you may want to look at getting a used Dialogic card on Ebay. I do have a dialogic card and it does not seem to have called id remember? (you said that yourself some time ago!) And even if it did it'd be FSK, no DTMF! Share this post Link to post
SupportTeam Report post Posted 10/26/2006 12:23 PM The TAPI version of VoiceGuide sends TAPI command like "lineOpen" etc. to the TAPI drivers supplied by the modem manufacturer. The TAPI driver then issues the AT commands line the AT#CID=1 etc. to the modem. The AT commands are usually specified in a .inf file supplied by the modem manufacturer. That is why you should speak with the modem manufacturer to see if they have a version of the driver/.inf file which configures the modem in a way that then lets it detect the type of CallerID info which is sent by your phone company. Which Dialogic card have you tried? Current Dialogic cards don't usually have any issues with detecting CallerID - be it DTMF or FSK... Share this post Link to post

SupportTeam Report post Posted 10/26/2006 07:06 PM That .inf file seems to have a #cid=1 command as part of it's command list. You really need to speak with the modem supplier to resolve why the CallerId is not reported via TAPI interface by this modem. When posting files/traces/scripts please .ZIP them up and post them as attachments. Share this post Link to post
kviar Report post Posted 10/26/2006 07:41 PM The funny thing is that it only works when doing directly to the com port (using hyperterminal) Also, I found out that the modem comes with a configuration software that allows to change the country, and if I put anything other than Brazil the caller id stops functioning even in the hyperterminal. So there must be another file other than the inf one that contains that data? Share this post Link to post

SupportTeam Report post Posted 10/26/2006 10:56 PM the modem DOES pick caller id infomation, but the TAPI system does not know what it means "Unknown Response" instead of "Interpreted response: Informative" This is all happening on the modem's TAPI driver layer. If you can work out the .inf file settings maybe there is something that you an change within it to have the driver accept the CallerID information. You would probably need to speak to the modem manufacturer. (BTW: what is the name/model of the modem?) We'd recommend you get a current model Dialogic card... we have seen Dialogic cards pick up DTMF CallerID before answering the call and VG will accept DTMF CallerID and use it. kviar Report post Posted 10/26/2006 11:13 PM It'd be best if vg could acess the modem directly, as I only use it for caller id purposes anyways and all I need is to tell me the number, something it does flawlessly when called without interference of TAPI... Share this post Link to post
SupportTeam Report post Posted 10/27/2006 12:09 AM It'd be best if vg could acess the modem directly, as I only use it for caller id purposes anyways and all I need is to tell me the number, v2.9 of VoiceGuide accesses the modem directly. See at the very bottom of the Downloads page for a link. Share this post Link to post
kviar Report post Posted 10/27/2006 07:16 PM We tried that old version. It won't even install: as soon as we click on the setup link, it says "Fatal NTDV error"... It'd be great if voiceguide had some kind of variable that pulled whatever the modem had to offer (even thru TAPI), for we noticed that the phone number comes inside that all that data, and we could somehow process it and get the phone ... SupportTeam Report post Posted 10/27/2006 10:44 PM VoiceGuide v5.x uses the TAPI functions to retrieve the CallerID information from the TAPI driver... but as you can see this modem's driver does not correctly interpret the information from the modem so the CallerID is not available to the application. kviar Report post Posted 10/28/2006 03:36 PM We just tried a caller id software made in Brazil and to our surprise it worked 100%. And it only works with the modem we have (SL2800). And only with the driver that is downloaded in its website (the driver offered by the reseller does not seem to work). However, it does not use TAPI: rather, it calls the modem directly. So you see: it's technically possible to get the data from the modem, so the inf file must be ok now. What's the TAPI .DLL or something that interacts between voiceguide and the modem driver? For now the problem must be there. Share this post Link to post
SupportTeam Report post Posted 10/29/2006 12:04 AM it does not use TAPI: rather, it calls the modem directly. As said before. The TAPI driver for the modem which you are using does not interpret the data correctly. so the inf file must be ok now.The .inf file is used by the TAPI layer... it would not be used if the modem is accessed directly. This is all going in circles. As mentioned at the outset: you need to contact the modem manufacturer to get a driver/.inf which works. Past experience has shown your chances of success are small. Your best chance of getting this working is getting a current model Dialogic card. Share this post Link to post
kviar Report post Posted 10/29/2006 03:16 AM Guess what? We spoke with the software manufacturer and he said that his software DOES use TAPI! Also, his software only worked after we installed a new driver (with a new inf file), so that problem is no more. However, he also said that in order for it to work, your software would have to use TAPI functions that are not the usual ones and not very well documented. So it all ends to what we said in the beginning: it's your software who's not reading the data correctly, so even with a top-notch dialogic board your software would not work either. So, there IS a software that is TAPI and works! Period. Deal. Share this post Link to post
SupportTeam Report post Posted 10/29/2006 03:31 AM Also, his software only worked after we installed a new driver (with a new inf file), so that problem is no more. However, he also said that in order for it to work, your software would have to use TAPI functions that are not the usual ones and not very well documented. Looks like you are now using a different modem driver (one that's not even supplied by the manufacturer?), and looks like the software you are using is designed to work with some undocumented functions from this driver. so even with a top-notch dialogic board your software would not work either.VoiceGuide for Dialogic software does not use TAPI. It controls the Dialogic card directly. None of the TAPI driver related issues apply. Current model Dialogic cards detect DTMF before call answer and VoiceGuide reads those reports correctly. We have systems deployed on DTMF CallerID lines using current model Dialogic cards and we can see that the CalllerID details are detected correctly on those systems. Share this post Link to post
