Guest voiceguide Report post Posted 07/19/2007 05:16 AM What is it mean by no telephony card need in v7.0 for VoIP? It seemed like no hardware needed, but then how does it do calling? Please explain. Share this post Link to post
SupportTeam Report post Posted 07/19/2007 05:31 AM No hardware telephony cards are used for VoIP. The telephone call is routed out over the network (Ethernet) and is connected to the destination using IP protocol (hence the name: "Voice Over IP"). The voice just travels as data packets over the network/internet/etc. just like WWW page downloads and FTP transfers etc. Share this post Link to post

Let's me be specific: Let's say that I have service with Vonage, then how do I get this to work. Because after signing up, we will only able to make call through the use of the adapter or we can also use softphone to do the job. But the thing is that I don't see how this can be done without the hardware. I am guessing that we do the HMP configuration for SIP or something like that? I guess I didn't ask it right the first time because I don't need explanation of what VoIP is. Thanks! Share this post Link to post
SupportTeam Report post Posted 07/19/2007 06:16 AM or we can also use softphone to do the job And the softphone does not use any special telephony hardware to make or receive calls... Similar with VoiceGuide - no special hardware is needed for VoIP operation. I am guessing that we do the HMP configuration for SIP or something like that? Yes. The HMP layer does the SIP/RTP communication. Share this post Link to post
