Newby Needs Help- Recorded Voice Playback Not Sounding Like Voice Used

Recommended Posts

I am testing the VoiceGuide Version 6.0.3335 and have a Dialogic card D/4PCI-U installed. The problem is when I record a message, download it, select it to use to call my number, the voice sounds like a male voice. (I am a female.) I have tried to adjust the Hz, etc, but nothing helps. What do I need to do to correct this problem?

Thanks,

Lori

The sound file format in VoiceGuide Version 6.0.3335 should be: WAV PCM 8kHz, 8-bit, Mono, PCM.

What format are your sound files in? (Right-click -> Properties should show you). If you are not sure please .ZIPn up and post the sound file hare and we can have a look at it.

http://www.voiceguide.com/vghelp/source/html/soundfiles.htm

It shows WAV PCM 8000khz, 8-bit, Mono, PCM.

If the sound file still plays different then what you'd expect I'd recommend trying to re-record it.

Have you also tried playing any other sound files, and hearing what they sound like? For example the sound files which came with VoiceGuide's demo scripts or the ones that are in VoiceGuide's \system\voice\ subdirectory?

If after the tests above you still have problems pleas post the sound file here (.ZIPed). You could also post the "TW" trace capturing it's play.

Enable logging by setting the log levels to 10 in VG.INI as per below:

[Log]

ktTel=10

Then restart VG and make a test call which demonstrates the problem.

Trace files will be created in VG's \log\ subdirectory.

Please post the traces and the VoiceGuide script used.

When posting traces/scripts please .ZIP them up and post them as attachments.

the VG's demo scripts sound fine, however, when I record a script and playback, it is crystal clear, (no hiss, no noise) but when I access the file to be heard when the call is answered, it has poor sound quality, meaning, there is a hiss and noise in the recording. I have tried several editors to remove any other sound except for my voice, but no luck.

Please post the trace of your calls and the recorded .WAV sound file. We can then see better what is happening on this system.

I have added the zip of one of the good recordings. When I place a call on either version 6 or 7, the sound includes noise. I simply can't figure out what is going on. When I play the recording, it sounds crisp and clear, but not when it is used in VoiceGuide. I will locate the log and send in a copy of that too.

Please try using the attached sound file with v7 of VoiceGuide.

The ALaw and ULaw format is the one that sounds best for home/office recorded sound files.

Use the ALaw or the ULaw version depending on which selection you made when installing VoiceGuide. (ULaw is used in North America and Japan, and ALaw is used everywhere else).

You can convert the sound files you have from PCM to ULaw or to ALaw using most sound editor programs. For easy batch conversion see the SOX app: http://sox.sourceforge.net/

The attached files were converted from supplied PCM original with SOX.

Here is the command used in a batch file to do the conversion using SOX:

FOR %%X IN (*.WAV) DO sox %%X -t au -r 8000 -U -b -c 1 "ULaw\%%X"

FOR %%X IN (*.WAV) DO sox %%X -t au -r 8000 -A -b -c 1 "ALaw\%%X"

The above commands when ran in a batch file will find every .WAV file in current directory and convert them and place converted copies in "ALaw" and "ULaw" subdirectories. The "ALaw" and "ULaw" subdirectories need to exist before running the batch file.

Normalizedmp1_ULaw.wav
