Going Global

Recommended Posts

Our client wants use to deploy our solution globally. Our US Telco wants to charge about .15cents per minute to Germany - other countries vary. They want calls all over Europe and Asia. Not a ton of calls but a couple of hundred per month per country. I can put a VG server in a NOC somewhere in Europe or get sip/voip trunks in my NOC in the US (no issue with bandwidth).

The issue is really call quality and I am very concerned. Will we get a noticeable a decrease in call quality in we went from our T-1s to Sip/VoIP trunks. All of our calls use two lines, they will be calling an 800 number for their country, the call comes to us, we do the IVR stuff and then we place a 2nd call and then record the call. Do you have any clients using VG to serve a Global customer base.

Yes. Pretty much all SIP providers have poorer sound quality and longer delays on international calls then what you will get if using a T1 ISDN from a proper Telco.

That’s why it's cheaper to use VoIP.

Putting a server in a NOC in Germany and connecting it to E1 lines is the better option.

Guess you can first try playing around with VoIP and see if you get satisfactory results on the international calls, but most likely you'll just be wasting your time if your customers in the end want good call quality.

To get best pricing on T1 lines have a look at the co-location facilities (eg. http://www.switchanddata.com etc) and go through the list of Telcos which supply their services there and compare their prices.
