Messages Not Being Deleted

Recommended Posts

For some reason I have a system that isnt always deleting old (read) messages. Consequently I have the voicemail manager reporting (Global tab) I have 2074 new messages, but in my VmSave folder I actually have 15,000 or so message files.

This is making the system run very slow, so in the short term I need to remove the message files from VmSave that should have already been deleted, to get the system running quick again, and then I can look at why the system is leaving these message files behind.

Can you tell me where the Voicemail Manager app gets its Voicemail statistics from? Is there a database it uses? I want to run a process to go through the database to see if each of my 15,000 messages is valid and if it isnt then delete it. (I'd rather not have to do it manually!)

Thanks

Is it possible that the other 13,000 messages have just been 'saved' instead of deleted?

What is the 'Saved Messages' count reported by the voicemail manager tab?

The filename itself is updated when the message is moved from 'new' to 'saved' status. The digit after the date-stamp is used for this. This flag is set to "1" for new messages and "2" for saved messages.

Which version of VoiceGuide are you using?

Which version of Windows are you using? Is the hard disk configured as FAT32 or NTFS? (should be NTFS if a larger number of messages is saved under VoiceGuide v6).

Hi,

No, there are only 125 or so saved messages reported on the Global Tab. I must confess I installed this system back in 2006 but the client opted not to have a maintenance contract. So when the hard disk crashed earlier this year I had a job to remember how the original thing was configured and was set up. I do recall at the time there was a question about messages not being deleted but to be honest I really can't remember. I also remember it was about the time you were doing something clever with converting WAV's to VOX's on the fly, and then didn't you go to using just VOX's ? (I cant remember!)

Anyway, we are running 6.0.0.3233 with WinXP 2.6Ghz processor and 2MB RAM. Disk is formatted using NTFS.

I have worked out though that for every valid message in the system there is both a WAV file and a VOX file. However there are thousands of other VOX files without a corresponding WAV file, and these do not tie up with a valid voicemail message in the Voicemail Manager(either new or saved).

So, I just deleted all the VOX files and the system is now running as I would expect. (I guessed it would create a new vox for the valid messages when it played the WAV)

Go on ....say it.... I need to upgrade to a later version !

The latest version of v6 does not create intermediate VOX files. (v7 does not create intermediate VOX files either)

So if the current version that is installed on the system creates intermediate VOX files then yes, we would recommend updating to latest v6 ;)
