SupportTeam Report post Posted 01/11/2012 05:27 AM Sound quality is determined by the quality of the sound file that is played back, the codec used for the connection, and the network quality of connection - with low latency and low packet drop being desirable. Main limiting factor in sound quality sent over the connection is the codec used. To get better transmitted sound quality you would need to use high definition (HD) voice codecs. HD Voice use is not very widespread - and ultimately the end users telephones support at most the quality equivalent to G.711 codec (standard 8kHz 8bit ULaw encoding), and less if user is on mobile phone. Some more info on HD Voice: The HD Voice codecs are G.722, G.722.2 HD Voice delivers higher quality voice transmissions by extending the frequency of range of traditional or narrowband voice calls (300 Hz to 3400 Hz) out to wideband audio ranges (50 Hz to 7000 Hz). This creates a better overall experience for users because on the phone it: - Makes it easier to recognize voices - Makes it easier to distinguish the sounds of fricatives, such as s, z, and f - Fades or cuts out background noise - Provides more natural sounding speech Share this post Link to post
